VII Conference of the Spanish-Portuguese Association of Resources and Environmental Economics
We are very pleased to welcome you to Aveiro for the VII Conference of the Spanish-Portuguese Association of Natural Resources and Environmental Economics (AERNA) organized by the Department of Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering and Tourism (DEGEIT) and the Research Center in Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policy (GOVCOPP) that will be held at the University of Aveiro from September 5th to September 7th, 2016. The Conference has also the support and collaboration of the Portuguese Association of Energy Economics (APEEN), that will conduct a Special Session in the event.
AERNA is a privileged forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in all areas of environmental and resource economics, covering a wide range of topics from the more general debate, such as climate change, energy sources, water management and ecosystem services evaluation, to more specialized subjects such as biodiversity conservation or persistent organic pollutants.
Aveiro is a Portuguese city located 68 km to the south of Porto and 58 km north of Coimbra, straddling the "ria" Aveiro and the river Vouga, a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean. The city is often called the "Portuguese Venice" because is bathed through canals, bridges, and painted boats called moliceiros, that were traditionally used for seaweed harvest used to fertilize the fields, and nowadays are used to tour with tourists. The real charm of Aveiro lies in its coast, with its fantastic sandy beaches as São Jacinto, Barra and Costa Nova and in its Salinas, a vast area dedicated to the production of salt. The city is also famous for the Convento de Jesus (now known as the City Museum "Santa Joana"), built in the 15th century, which contains the tomb of the daughter of Afonso V, St. Joana, who died in 1490.
In addition, food lovers will find many good restaurants with amazing fish and seafood dishes, and shouldn’t forget to experiment one the Portuguese best delicacy called Ovos Moles.
We hope that the conference program and the location will make the VII AERNA Congress an event that no one wants to miss out on. We are looking forward to meet you in Aveiro.
