Invited University Chair in Biorefinery and Bioeconomy

Universidade de Aveiro (hereinafter “UA”) and The Navigator Company, S.A. (hereinafter “NVG”) are launching an international public call for the attribution of an Invited Chair in Biorefinery and Bioeconomy

The primary goal of NVG Invited Chair is to attract to Portugal a top level researcher/senior professional with relevant career and proven technological expertise in the field, currently working abroad, in order to develop and to promote emerging areas of knowledge, namely fostering the growth of research and development activities, and advanced education in fields of common interest both to the UA and NVG. The candidates should have a transversal experience and integrated vision of bioeconomy and biorefining processes, although with special focus in at least of the following areas:

  • Extraction and deconstruction processes and integration in the biorefinery value chain;
  • New products and materials from cellulosic fibers;
  • Cellulosic sugars conversion to high added-value intermediates and final products; 
  • Lignin separation/recovery and conversion to new products and materials;
  • Thermochemical conversion of biomass and products processing.

UA will be the host institution.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Invited Chair will be hired by UA as an Invited Professor, for a period of FOUR (4) years with the following responsibilities:

  • To lead a research team in the established area and in accordance with NVG research activities and priorities;
  • To develop advanced education courses and to integrate programmes in related fields, namely at the doctorate and post-doctorate levels;
  • To consolidate R&D activities and reinforce the cooperation between UA and NVG;
  • To promote international partnerships, as well as networks and projects;
  • To participate in the training of researchers and students, especially postgraduate students
  • To deliver lectures and seminars related to the specific field.

The Invited Chair will be considered as long as he/she can spend half of his/her working time in Portugal, with an expected minimum/recommended period of 5 months. The maximum amount of the financial incentive is 43.480€ gross per year.

The application should be submitted in English, by email, to the Human Resources Department of the University of Aveiro (sgrhf-concursos@ua.pt).

Applications shall include:

  • Curriculum vitae (detailed);
  • Proposed 4 years activity programme; 
  • Letter of motivation.

The deadline to submit the applications is June 30, 2018.

The evaluation and selection of applications will be carried out by a panel of four evaluators, a President and two evaluators to be appointed by UA and one to be designated by NVG.
