Abdallah Harati

Originally from São Paulo, Brazil,  Abdallah Harati is currently based in Munich, is the Head of Incubation & Start Up Sales, Strategy & Sales Operations of Nokia. Formerly he was the Nokia Country Director for Brazil and has over 19 years experience in the telecom segment. Throughout his career he has held roles in marketing, sales as well as extensive experience in the technical fields in Nokia and Ericsson. Abdallah has extensive experience in M&As, business management, new portfolio introduction, high level customer negotiations, deals closing, product marketing as well as translating business strategies into marketing programs.

Garrick Louis

Garrick E. Louis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Virginia. He was an AAAS Science & Policy Fellow at the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006-2007. He received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2000. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, a Warren Weaver Fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation and a member of the teaching faculty at the State University of New York before coming to the University of Virginia.

Júlio Pedrosa

Having retired as Full Professor of the University of Aveiro in June 2009, he continues as Senior Researcher of the Centre for Research in Ceramics and composite Materials and Associate with the Research Centre in Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies of the same University. As former Rector of the University of Aveiro, former President of the Portuguese Council of Rectors (CRUP) and former Minister of Education of Portugal, Júlio Pedrosa was actively involved in Higher Education.

Nuno Sousa

Nuno Sousa is Full Professor at the School of Health Science, University of Minho. He is the Director of the Medical Degree at University of Minho and serves at several medical education and medical assessment advisory boards. Presently, he is the Director of the Clinical Academic Center at Hospital de Braga. He coordinates and is involved in several national and international research projects. His research main interests are focused in the establishment of functional and structural correlations mediated by stress and aging and its implications in cognition and in neuropsychiatric disorders.

Paulo Ferrão

The new President of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia is a Full Professor at IST, and a renowned researcher in the field of Energy Efficiency and Industrial Ecology. His scientific career has been developed with close ties to on-field application and the industry. The new president of FCT graduated top of his class in Mechanical Engineering at IST, in 1985. He holds a Master’s Degree in Heat Transfer and Conversion and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, both from IST. He also holds a degree from ISCTE in Strategic Management in the Context of Innovation.

Richard Walker

Richard Walker is a senior researcher in the BBP Brain Simulation team. Originally an international economist, trained at Sussex University, UK, Richard lived for more than 35 years in Italy where he worked in R&D, first in Unisys and later in the Telecom Italia group. In 2000 he founded Xiwrite Srl, his own research consultancy company which he managed until he came to Lausanne in 2009, where he was the Senior Science Writer for the Human Brain Project Proposal. He took on his current position in 2015. His research focuses on the relationship between the brain, culture, and human evolution.

Susana Sargento

Susana Sargento is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the University of Aveiro, Portugal and the Institute of Telecommunications, where she is leading the Network Architectures and Protocols group. She co-founded a vehicular networking company, Veniam, a spin-off of the Universities of Aveiro, Porto and Instituto de Telecomunicações, which builds a seamless low-cost vehicle-based internet infrastructure. Recently Susana Sargento won the first prize of the 2016 EU Prize for Women Innovators, which aims at give public recognition to outstanding women entrepreneurs who brought their innovative ideas to the market.
