Carla Patinha graduated in Geological Engineering by the University of Aveiro (UA) in 1994, completed the M.Sc. degree in Geochemistry by UA in 1997, and finished her PhD degree in Geosciences by the UA in 2002.

Since October 2018 She is Assistant Professor.  She is researcher of GEOBIOTEC - GeoBioSciences, GeoTechnologies and GeoEngineering research unit. Since 2009 she integrates the Bioaccessibility Research Group of Europe (BARGE) and she participated in the 2nd BARGE inter-laboratory trial that is being carried out to validate the Unified Bioaccessibility Method (UBM). She is a member of the OHM-Estarreja (financed by Labex DRIIHM and the Réseau des Observatoire Hommes-Millieux - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (ROHM-CNRS)). She was a member of the Organizing Committee of International Symposium of Environmental Geochemistry (ISEG), held on Aveiro University in 2012, and also a member of the Organizing Committee of MEDGEO’15 (Medical Geology conference), held on Aveiro University in 2015. Her research activities are: applied hydrogeochemistry to the mineral exploration resources, environmental geochemistry and health, urban geochemistry and public health, medical geology, data analysis, spatial modelling, geostatistics and GIS applied to the exploration of mineral resources, hazard and environmental risk assessments in environmental complex systems. Presently research interests include human bioaccessibility, solid-phase distribution of potentially harmful elements to human health, and the study of environmental geochemical records: climate changes and human activities.
