biographical description

Sandra Vieira graduated in Biochemistry (1996) at the Institute for Biomedical Sciences, ICBAS – Porto. Did a final project at Utrecht University and holds a PhD is in Biological Sciences (2006) from the University of Aveiro. She is invited Assistant Professor at the Health Sciences Department of the University of Aveiro.

research interests
Sandra´s research focus on Regenerative Biomedicine and Neurosciences. She is studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal differentiation and regeneration. In particular, the signal transduction pathways active in neuritogenesis and neuroregeneration, including the networks involving the Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP), heterotrimeric G-proteins of the G(alpha)i/o family and their associated receptors (GPCRs). Other research topics include the development of biomaterials for tissue engineering applications, namely for neuroregeneration and for osteoregeneration.
