phd programme

Our research is supported by a joint PhD Program in Biomedicine (PDBM) with the Medical School of the NOVA University of Lisbon. This 4 year PhD program (240 ECTS) has a curricular component concentrated in the first year and two elective courses in the second year. The Curricular Units are shared by the two institutions and the PhD students can have joint supervisions and carry out their work in both institutions. The iBiMED – Aveiro and CEDOC-NOVA provide the research infrastructure to carry out dissertations work. Compulsory curricular units include :

1) The Molecular Basis of Biomedicine;
2) Integrative Biomedicine;
3) Project development in biomedicine;

Elective courses are diverse and include Cell Biology and Signaling, RNAs in Human Health and Disease, Structural Biology, Molecular Immunology, Molecular Pathogenesis of Cancer, Human Genetics and Genomics, Aging and Dementia, Systems Biomedicine, Advanced Microscopy, Translational Medicine, Developmental Biology and Animal Models of Disease. Students also have access to advanced courses, workshops and summer schools whose ECTS can be credited to the PhD program.
